Frances Newman

CHOREOGRAPHY

Frances Newman is a senior lecturer of movement at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Following a career as an international modern rhythmic gymnast she trained as a dancer at the Laban Centre. She worked with the National Dance Company of Wales, Diversions from 1989-1993. As a choreographer she formed her own company (Treays and Newman) and toured works The Nursery Room, and Gorgeous. As a freelance choreographer her credits include Blood And Honey, Above Ground and Flatshare for Diversions. She has worked with Welsh National Opera on Cunning Little Vixen, Die Fledermaus and Rigoletto. She has worked for Hijinx, Theatr Iolo and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru  (Romeo a Juliet) Her credits for RWCMD include operas Hansel and Gretel, Suor Angelica and Down in the valley. Musicals she has choreographed include Merrily we roll along, Guys and Dolls, Sweet Charity, Michael Bogdanovs's  Speakeasy and The Threepenny Opera, Quadrophenia, Westside Story. In 2008/2009 she choreographed Beauty and the Beast (Sherman Cymru), Thoroughly Modern Millie (RWCMD), Hans Christian Anderson's Magical Tales (Creation, Oxford), The servant and his Scarecrow (Southwark Playhouse).
