Essential viewing for rock fans
Jeff Yong, John O'Hara and Tom Critchley's stage adaptation sticks firmly to the source material: The Who's iconic 1973 album, augmented by a couple of sympathetic numbers and played live by a brilliant eight-piece band. No dialogue helps the blurry hallucinogenic narrative on its way. The staging succeeds in throwing a spotlight on the music – Love, Reighn O'er Me is electrifying and Ryan O' Donnell as Jimmy the Romantic, not only looks like Phil Daniels but sounds like Roger Daltrey. Essential viewing for rock fans and their standing ovation for this brave show comes as no surprise.
